Doña Montserrat Lopez Memorial High School began as a city high school during the incumbency of then-Mayor Natalio G. Velez (1968-1986). At that time, the school was located near the Silay South Elementary School. It was envisioned to accommodate poor but deserving elementary school graduates and consequently offered free tuition.
The school later became known as the Silay City National High School. After the donation of a parcel of land was made by the affluent Lopez family for the new school edifice, the school was renamed in honor of Doña Montserrat Lopez.
Maria Faith Montserrat Lopez was one of the richest women in Negros Occidental in the 1930’s. Educated in Spain, she married Rico Barbona, a poor farmer from Cadiz City in the late 1950’s. They had three children. She died of heart cancer in the late 1960’s.

The first ever foam party provided to celebrate the joyful and resilient spirits of Montserratians in a way that’s never been done before. Aside from the party, the morning activities includes the induction of classroom officers, and Miss Q&A.

This school event happened last September 28-30, 2018. There are a lot of activities during the said event, which includes the Mr. and Ms. Hinampang, dance tribute to all grade levels, Pop Dance competition, and Litmus.

During this school activity, students showed their appreciation for their teachers by giving them flowers, letters, and cakes. Also there are loyalty awards given to the teacher’s who served the school for 25 years.
